On April 13, President Joe Biden nominated Judge John Z. Lee to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. If confirmed, Judge Lee would be the first Asian American appellate judge on the Seventh Circuit.
Judge Lee will be filling the seat held by Judge Diane Wood, who took senior status in December 2021. A 1989 magna cum laude from Harvard College and 1992 cum laude graduate from Harvard Law School, Lee was confirmed to the Northern Illinois District Court in 2012. He was the first Korean American to ever serve as an Article III federal judge in the Northern Illinois District.
APABA-IN applauds the nomination of Judge Lee. He is a well-qualified nominee and will make an excellent contribution to the appellate court.
